The Third Generation Of Hockers

NOTE: I obtained this data from someone who was researching the Hocker family. I do not know how accurate this data is. The Third Generation Of Hockers
4a2) Elizabeth Hocker (see Chapter 3a2). (Source Codes – MW3, Cd 206.) Elizabeth Hocker was born the 14th of December 1701 in Prince George Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Elizabeth Hocker married Samuel Pruitt1 in 1720 in Prince George’s Co, Md. Elizabeth Hocker was named after her father Robert Hocker’s mother Elizabeth [Wright] Hocker. Samuel was born the 4th of April 1700 in Prince George’s Co, Md the son of John Pruitt (born 1658 England, migrated to Va in 1684) and Sarah Lessene (born 1662 England). From what we know Samuel Pruitt and Elizabeth Hocker had seven children, all born in Prince George’s Co, Md as follows: a) Priscilla Pruitt (see Chapter 5a2a) was born in 1721 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Priscilla Pruitt married Captain William D Duvall2 the 20th of October 1743 in Rock Creek, Prince George’s Co, Md. William was born about 1721 in Prince George’s Co, Md the son of Benjamin Duvall (born 1684 Md the youngest son of his parents and one of the signers of the petition to create Frederick Co, died 177? Md) and Sophia Griffith (born 1691 Md, daughter of William, died 19 April 1730 Md) who married in 1713 in Prince George’s Co, Md. William’s paternal grandfather was Mareen Duvall sr (born about 1630 France, a French Huguenot and owner of the Middle Plantation in Queen Anne Parish, died 1694 Md) and his second wife Susannah Brashears (born before 1647 Va the daughter of Benjamin Brashears, born about 1600 a Huguenot and he was a magistrate of Calvert Co, Md and his wife Mary, maiden name unknown). Priscilla and Captain William Duvall had five children, all born in Prince George’s Co, Md. For information about their children, see Chapter 5a2a. William D Duvall served as a private in the French and Indian War and during the Revolutionary War he served as the Captain of the Frederick Co, Maryland Militia. Priscilla [Pruitt] Duvall died in 1798 and Captain William D Duvall died in 1810. (Source Code – Cd 184.) b) Margaret Pruitt was born 1724 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Margaret Pruitt married her mother’s first cousin (see paragraph 4c2) Philip Hocker sr about 1744 in Prince George’s Co, Md. Margaret and Philip Hocker sr had five sons we know of, all born in Frederick Co, Md. For information about their sons, see Chapter 4c2. Philip Hocker sr died in October or November 1774 in Frederick Co, Md and Margaret [Pruitt] Hocker died in 1791 in Montgomery Co, Md. c) Sarah Pruitt was born in 1726 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Sarah Pruitt married David Boydston. Sarah and David Boydston had a son we know of, William Boydston. d) Samuel Pruitt jr (see Chapter 5a2d) was born 1730 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Samuel Pruitt jr married Lucy Owen in 1754 in Frederick Co, Md. Lucy and Samuel Pruitt jr had nine children, three born in Frederick Co, Md and six born in Halifax Co, Va. For information about their children, see Chapter 5a2d. (Source Codes - LCA, MCC2.) e) Zachariah Pruitt was born in 1734 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. f) John Pruitt was born in 1736 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. g) Mary Pruitt (see Chapter 5a2g) was born the 21st of January 1742 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Mary Pruitt married James Boydston. James was born the 21st of September 1738 in Green Co, Pa. Mary and James Boydston had twelve children. For information about their children, see Chapter 5a2g. Mary [Pruitt] Boydston died the 22nd of May 1809 and James Boydston died the 6th of February 1814 in Logan Co, Ky. After Samuel Pruitt died then Elizabeth [Hocker] Pruitt married John Riddle as shown in Samuel Pruitt’s probate dated the 5th of June 1765. Elizabeth, the 5th of June 1765 has delivered all of her right and title to the estate of her late husband Samuel Pruitt. We do not know of any children from John Riddle and Elizabeth [Hocker] Pruitt’s marriage. John Riddle was a widower with many children that Elizabeth helped to raise. Elizabeth [Hocker] Pruitt Riddle died in 1795 in Frederick Co, Md. 4a3) Robert Hocker jr (see Chapter 3a3). (Source Codes – MW3, Cd 206.) Robert Hocker was born the 11th of September 1706 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Robert Hocker jr married Elizabeth Deakins about 1728 in Prince George’s Co, Md. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Deakins and Priscilla [Boone or Piles ?] of Prince George’s Co, Md. In many of the documents showing Robert they have his last name spelled Hooker, but that is a simple mistake, done many times and their children and grandchildren do spell their name Hooker. There are many real Hookers in Maryland at this time, but they all lived in and around Baltimore, Md and it started with their original migrant Thomas Hooker. Robert Hocker and Elizabeth Deakins had eight children, seven girls and a boy as shown in Robert’s will dated the 2nd of April 1751 and proved the 26th of June 1751 in Prince George’s Co, Md as follows: a) Mary Hocker was born about 1729 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. Mary Hocker married a “Sadler” in Frederick Co, Md. It is likely that her husbands name was James Sadler. We believe that Mary and her husband lived in Virginia, but at this time that is all we know about them. b) Elizabeth Hocker was born about 1730 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. c) Amy Hocker was born about 1732 in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. d) Rebecca Hocker was born about 1733 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. e) Ann Hocker was born about 1735 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. f) Alice Hocker was born about 1737 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. g) Tabitha Hocker born about 1738 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince Geoge’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. h) Robert Deakins Hocker1 (see Chapter 5a3h) was born about 1740 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. Robert Deakins Hocker jr was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Robert Deakins Hocker married three times, first to Sarah White in 1758 in Prince George’s Co, Md. Sarah was the daughter of Robert White3 (died before the 14th of April 1768 Md, a Prince George’s Co, Md planter). Sarah and Robert Deakins Hocker had a son, born in Frederick Co, Md. Then Robert Deakins Hocker married Ann Waugh the 26th of August 1764 in All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel Co, Md. We do not know of any children from this marriage. Then Robert Deakins Hocker married Ruth Prather2 about 1790 in Montgomery Co, Md. Ruth was born in 1764 in Prince George’s Co, Md the daughter of James Prather (died before July of 1791) and Ann Turner. Ruth and Robert Deakins Hocker had six children, all born in Montgomery Co, Md. For information about all of Robert Deakins Hocker’s children, see Chapter 5a3h. Robert Deakins Hocker died before the 17th of August 1815 in Montgomery Co, Md. His will was written the 15th of November 1814. (Source Code – RWB1, Cd 206.) 4c1) Mary Hocker (see Chapter 3c1). Mary Hocker married twice, first to Benjamin Thrasher early in 1725 in Prince George’s Co, Md. The security was provided by her father Nicholas Hocker and Benjamin Thrasher’s brother-in-law John Ball of Talbot Co, Md. Benjamin Thrasher was probably the son of William Thrasher of Talbot Co, Md. Mary and Benjamin Thrasher sr had eight children, all born in Prince George’s Co, Md as follows: a) Thomas Thrasher (see Chapter 5c1a) was born the 29th of October 1725 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. Thomas Thrasher married Martha Lee the 21st of August 1748 in Prince George’s Co, Md. Martha was born the 21st of April 1729 in Prince George’s Co, Md the daughter of James Lee (died before his will was proved the 14th of February 1764 Md) and Mary Mitchell ? (daughter of John Mitchell). Martha and Thomas Thrasher had ten children, all born in Frederick Co, Md. For information about their children, see Chapter 5c1a. Thomas Thrasher died the 6th of June 1804 in Frederick Co, Md and Martha [Lee] Thrasher died in 1806 in Frederick Co, Md. (Source Codes – HWMP, JTS1, HL1, TLCG3, Cd 206.) b) James Thrasher was born the 22nd of September 1727 in Prince George’s Co, Md and died when young. (Source Codes – TLCG3, M76.) d) Margaret “Rachel” Thrasher (see Chapter 5c1d) was born in 1732 Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Margaret “Rachel” Thrasher married Thomas Fee sr in 1754 in Frederick Co, Md. Thomas was born about 1732 in Md the son of George Fee III and Parnell, maiden name unknown. Margaret and Thomas Fee sr had four children, all born in Frederick Co, Md. For information about their children, see Chapter 5c1d. Margaret “Rachel” [Thrasher] Fee died in Greene Co, Pa. Then Thomas Fee sr married Sarah Lieth. (Source Codes – TLCG3, T&D1.) e) Mary Thrasher2 (see Chapter 5c1e) was born the 20th of March 1734 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md and Frederick Co, Md. Mary Thrasher married the widower John Padgett in August 1759 in Frederick Co, Md. John was born 9th of September 1723 in Charles Co, Md the son of Benjamin Padgett (died 1727 Md) and Mary, maiden name unknown (Stephens ?). John Padgett had been married to Elizabeth Cawood and they had four children, Mary Padgett (born 21 June 1746, died 1788 NC) and married Benjamin Chitty; Elizabeth Padgett (born 1749) who married James Layton (or Joseph Leighton ?) and then married John Cooper; Thomas Padgett (born 1752, died 1831 NC) and married Sarah Anne Matthews; and Benjamin Padgett (born about 1755, died 1794 NC) and married Mary Elrod? Mary and John Padgett had three children, all born in Frederick Co, Md. For information about their children, see Chapter 5 In the spring of 1775 John Padgett and Mary and all of their children migrated to Surry Co (it then became Stokes Co and now Forsyth Co), NC. Mary [Thrasher] Padgett died the 24th of January 1787 and John Padgett died in 1811 and both are buried in the Moravian Graveyard, Forsythe Co, NC. (Source Codes – MT1, TLCG3, Cd 206, Cd 208.) f) John Thrasher1 (see Chapter 5c1f) was born the 15th of May 1736 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md and Frederick Co, Md. John Thrasher served as a private in Captain Alexander Beall’s company during the French and Indian War. John Thasher deserted before the final victory. John Thrasher married Elizabeth Ankrom in 1760 in Frederick Co, Md. Elizabeth was born the 29th of March 1748 in Frederick Co, Md the daughter of Richard Arcrum and Elizabeth Fee. (Source Codes – TLCG3, T&D1.) g) Sarah Thrasher was born in 1737 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Legend has Sarah Thrasher married Thomas Wells. At this time this is all we know about her. (Source Code – TLCG3.) h) Benjamin Thrasher jr was born in 1738 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co and Frederick Co, Md. Benjamin Thrasher jr was listed in the will of his mother and step-father William Spiers dated the 17th of October 1763 in Frederick Co, Md. Benjamin Thrasher jr and his half-sister Eleanor Spiers migrated to Pittsylvania Co, Va sometime after the 18th of June 1767. Benjamin Thrasher jr married Sarah White the 17th of October 1785 by Rev Lazarus Dobson in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Sarah was the daughter of Thomas White. The security for Benjamin Thrasher jr’s wife Sarah White was provided by his kinfolk Zachariah Pruitt (see Chapter 5a2d2). When Benjamin Thrasher jr married he was 47 years old and we are not sure how old his wife Sarah White was, but we do not know of any children from this marriage nor do we know anymore about them. (Source Codes – TLCG3, LCA, CLK2, MCC1.) Benjamin Thrasher sr died in 1740 in Frederick Co, Md and Mary [Hocker] Thrasher raised all of these children all by herself. According to the Will and Probate Mary [Hocker] Thrasher inherited everything from Benjamin Thrasher, which was a good thing, since she didn’t get married right away. Mary Hocker wrote a will that shows up in the land records for 1739 - 1743 for Prince George’s Co, Md on page 118 shows Page 626. “I Mary Thrasher of PG, widow, for the love and affection I have for my children hereafter named, viz. Thomas Thrasher, do give 7 lbs, to my daughter Mary the same, to my son John the same, to my son William the same, to my daughter Sarah the same, to my daughter Margaret the same, to my son Benjamin 10 lbs, all to be paid at the common age. And my dwelling plantation & the land thereunto belonging called the “Benjamin”, to my son Thomas after my death, during his natural life & afterwards to my son Benjamin. Signed the 21st of March 1743 and recorded the next day.” We know that Benjamin Thrasher sr had purchased this 100 acres called “The Benjamin” from the Beall family as shown in the Prince George Co, Md Deeds, Liber M, folio 174, dated the 9th of June 1726. Then Mary [Hocker] Thrasher married William Spiers about 1750 in Frederick Co, Md. William was a widower, and a tailor, and much older. Benjamin Thrasher was a planter, and when he died his eldest son, Thomas, who was 15 took over all of his dad’s work. As mentioned Mary [Hocker] Thrasher married for a second time to William Spiers about 1750, a widower with grown children. Mary [Hocker] Thrasher Spiers and William Spiers had a daughter, as follows: i) Eleanor Spiers (see Chapter 5c1i) was born about 1752 in Frederick Co, Md. Eleanor’s mother Mary [Hocker] Thrasher Spiers was about 39 when she had her ninth child, Eleanor Spiers. Eleanor Spiers was raised in Frederick Co, Md. After her parents died Eleanor Spiers migrated to Pittsylvania Co, Va with her half-brother Benjamin Thrasher jr. Eleanor Spiers1 married John Walters either the 5th of January 1778 or the 1st of April 1778 in Halifax Co, Va. John was the son of Thomas Walters and Lucy Walker. Eleanor and John Walters had four children, all born in Pittsylvania Co, Va. For information about their children, see Chapter 5c1i. Eleanor [Spiers] Walters died in 1831 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and John Walters died in 1836 in Halifax Co, Va. (Source Codes – LCA.) Mary [Hocker] Thrasher Spiers and William Spiers wrote a will dated the 17th of October 1763, and it mentions her children living with her, Eleanor Spiers and Benjamin Thrasher jr. Mary [Hocker] Thrasher Spiers must have died before the 18th of June 1767 because that is when her son Thomas Thrasher sold this land. 4c2) Philip Hocker sr (see Chapter 3c2). (Source Codes – VEP83, VLS1, VLS2, MMR1, MMR2, JTS1, Addendum 2.) Elizabeth Lee and William Hocker had three children, all born in Frederick Co (now Montgomery Co), Md. For information about their children, see Chapter 5c2a. After Elizabeth Lee [Parkerson] Hocker died then William Hocker married Margaret Christman2 in 1791 in Montgomery Co, Md. Margaret was the daughter of Jacob Christman. There were no children that we are aware of from this marriage, as Margaret [Christman] Hocker died in 1792 in or on the way to Lincoln Co, Ky. William Hocker then married Molly Wilson the 14th of February 1796 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Molly and William Hocker did not have any children. William Hocker died in 1810 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Samuel Pruitt Hocker married twice, first to Ann Price about 1773 in Frederick Co, Md. Ann was born about 1751 in Frederick Co, Md the daughter of Thomas Price. Ann and Samuel Pruitt Hocker had five children, all born in Montgomery Co, Md. After Mary died Samuel Pruitt Hocker married Nancy Barnes about 1783 in Montgomery Co, Md. Nancy Barnes may have been married to an “Aldridge” prior to being married to Samuel Pruitt Hocker. Nancy Barnes’s paternal grandparents were Godfrey Barnes who married Elizabeth Weaver. Nancy Barnes’s maternal grandparents were Samuel Waters and Jane Dunston. Nancy Barnes’s great paternal grandfather may have been John Barnes who arrived in the Maryland colony about 1670. Nancy Barnes’s great maternal grandparents are Richard Weavor (who arrived in Va and then Md about 1647, died before the 15th of April 1689 Md) and Ann Guttridge (who died before the 4th of July 1713 in Prince George’s Co, Md). Samuel Pruitt Hocker was a patroit, and took the oath of fidelity and support in 1778, and along with that Samuel Pruitt Hocker provided wheat to the our Army during the Revolutionary War. Located on Peyton’s Well road, approximately one-half mile north of Ky 78 at Turnersville, on a farm now owned by Robert T McCormack are the remains of the chimney which was part of the log house thought to have been built in the 1790’s by Samuel Pruitt Hocker. About one hundred yards behind these remains is the Hocker/Goode Cemetery where Samuel Pruitt Hocker is buried. His brother Nicholas Hocker is also believed to be buried in this cemetery. Samuel Pruitt Hocker died in 1815 in Lincoln Co, Ky. (Source Codes – C&W1, TW5, VEP83, VLS2, Cd 137, Cd 148, Cd 150, Cd 151, Cd 154, Cd 206.) c) George Hocker (see Chapter 5c2c) was born about 1749 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Sarah “Sally” [Barnes] Hocker died in September 1812 and Nicholas Hocker died the 15th of February 1813 both in Lincoln Co, Ky. (Source Codes – C&W1, VEP83, VLS2, Cd 137, Cd 150, Cd 151.) 4c3) William Hocker (see Chapter 3c3). (Source Codes – VEP83, M76, Addendum 4.) William Hocker was born in 1721 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. William Hocker married Susanna, maiden name unknown about 1751 in Frederick Co, Md. Susanna was born in 1716 in Maryland. In the 2nd of September 1776 census we find William Hocker his wife Susanna and their children living in the “Sugar Land hundred” in Montgomery Co, Md. Susanna and William Hocker had five children we know of, all born in Frederick Co, Md as follows: a) William Hocker jr (see Chapter 5c3a) was born in 1752 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md and Montgomery Co, Md. William Hocker jr was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Mary Ruth Allnutt was living with her brother Jesse Allnutt and his wife Eleanor Ann Chiswell as shown in the 1776 Frederick Co, Md census. William Hocker jr married Mary Ruth Allnutt about 1789 in Montgomery Co, Md. Mary Ruth was a twin to her sister Mary and was born in 1757 in Frederick Co, Md the daughter of James Allnutt (born 1713 Md, a farmer) and Mary Lawrence (died about 1770 Md). After Mary Ruth’s mother died, her father James Allnutt then married Jean Coberth about 1775 in Montgomery Co, Md. Mary Ruth and William Hocker jr had eight children that we know of, all born in Montgomery Co, Md. For information about their children, see Chapter 5c3a. William Hocker jr died before 1820 in Montgomery Co, Md. (Source Codes – VEP83, M76.) b) A unknown daughter that married Zephaniah Swann about 1768 in Frederick Co, Md. Zephaniah Swann. This daughter and Zephaniah Swann had a son, Hezekiah Swann born in 1769 in Frederick Co, Md. Zephaniah was born in 1740 in Md the son of Thomas Swann and Abigail, maiden name unknown. Apparently this daughter died during childbirth and Hezekiah Swann was raised by her parents William Hocker sr and Susanna. Zephaniah Swann married again and raised another family.
