The Sixth Generations Of Hockers:vol. 7

Washington Hocker was born in February 1808 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co, Ky. Washington Hocker married three times, first to Rebecca Magill the 3rd of February 1829 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Rebecca was born in 1810 in Ky the daughter of Hugh Magill and Margaret “Peggy” Daugherty who married the 30th of December 1794 in Mercer Co, Ky. Rebecca and Washington Hocker had nine children, all born in Lincoln Co, Ky and Warren Co, Ky as follows: 1) Sarah Margaret Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3d1) was born the 20th of September 1830 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co and Graves Co, Ky. Sarah Margaret Hocker married Warren Elijah Webb the 20th of August 1851 in Kosciusko, Attaka Co, Ms. Warren Elijah was born the 6th of March 1829 in South Carolina the son of Charles Webb (. Sarah Margaret and Warren Elijah Webb had twelve children, the first three in Attala Co, Ms and five born in Graves Co, Ky, and four born in McCracken Co, Ky. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3d1. According to the 1860 Graves Co, Ky census Warren Elijah Webb was a farmer. Warren Elijah Webb died the 8th of October 1876 and Sarah Margaret died the 28th of October 1877 and both died in Maxons Mills, Paducah, McCracken Co, Ky. 2) John Yantis Hocker was born in December 1832 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co and Graves Co, Ky. John Yantis Hocker married Elizabeth Lackey the 20th of January 1859 in Marshall Co, Ky. Elizabeth was born in December 1829 in Ky the daughter of Samuel Lackey (born 1787 Va, a wheelright and farmer) and Mary Jane Miller (the daughter of Colonel John Miller of Madison Co, Ky) of Graves Co, Ky. John Yantis Hocker and Elizabeth did not have any children. According to the 1860 Graves Co, Ky census they were living in Mayfield, Ky. The 1870 Graves Co, Ky census has John Yantis Hocker a farmer. As shown in the 1900 Graves Co, Ky census John Yantis Hocker was renting his farm. According to the 1910 Ky sndx John Yantis Hocker was a widower and he was living with his brother William Rice Hocker and his family. John Yantis Hocker died the 23rd of September 1915 in McCracken Co, Ky. 3) Permelia Jane Hocker was born the 19th of December 1834 in Lincoln Co, Ky and died the 1st of August 1856 in Warren Co, Ky. 4) Judge James Washington Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3d4) was born the 2nd of July 1837 in Perrysville, Boyle Co, Ky and raised in Perrysville, Boyle Co, Ky and near Bowling Green, Warren Co, Ky were he entered a tobacco warehouse as a clerk. James Washington Hocker moved to northern Graves Co, Ky and engaged in farming till 1881, when he was first appointed and then elected in 1882 to county judge. James Washington Hocker married three times, first to Ellen J Shelton the 1st of October 1859 in Graves Co, Ky. Ellen was born in 1841 of Trigg Co, Ky. Ellen and James Washington Hocker had three children, all born in Graves Co, Ky then Ellen J [Shelton] Hocker died in December 1864 in Graves Co, Ky. Then James Washington Hocker married widow Priscilla A [Russell] Simpson in December 1866 in Graves Co, Ky. Priscilla was born in 1841 in Kentucky. Priscilla first married A Simpson on the 1st of September 1859 in Graves Co, Ky. Priscilla and James Washington Hocker had six children, all born in Graves Co, Ky. For information about all of James Washington Hocker’s children, see Chapter 8c2e3d4. The 1870 Graves Co, Ky census shows James Washington Hocker and Priscilla with Margarette Hocker, Everett Hocker, and Thomas Hocker living at home with them. Priscilla died the 2nd of April 1882 in Graves Co, Ky. James Washington Hocker then married widow Susan [maiden name unknown] Davis the 15th of February 1883 in Graves Co, Ky. Susan was born in February 1842 in Kentucky. Susan and James Washington Hocker did not have any children. According to the 1900 Ky sndx James Washington Hocker and Susan had his son James Philip Hocker and seventeen boarders living with them on Seventh St, Mayfield, Graves Co, Ky. The 1920 Graves Co, Ky census shows that James Washington Hocker was a lawyer and was renting his home. James Washington Hocker died the 6th of September 1913 in Graves Co, Ky. (Source Code – Cd 233.) 5) Georgia Ann Hocker was born in October 1839 and died the 23rd of April 1847 in Warren Co, Ky. 6) Samuel Duncan Hocker was born in 1842 and died the 7th of September 1852 during his mothers funeral, they stopped and place him in the gasket with her and buried them together. 7) Mary Patterson Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3d7) was born the 20th of July 1844 in Warren Co, Ky and raised in Warren Co and Graves Co, Ky. As shown in the 1860 Ballard Co, Ky census Mary Patterson Hocker was living with her parents in Lovelaceville, Ky. Mary Patterson Hocker married Virgil Stewart Lovelace the 6th of December 1860 in Graves Co, Ky. Virgil Stewart was born the 29th of January 1836 in Ky the son of Andrew Lovelace (born 12 February 1811 Butler Co, Ky) and Eleanor Ashley (born 15 May 1815 Butler Co, Ky) who married the 5th of November 1833 in Ballard Co, Ky. Virgil Stewart’s paternal grandfather was Captain Andrew Lovelace sr (born 1776 NC, died 1863 Ky). Virgil Stewart’s great grandfather was Elias Lovelace, a veteran of the American revolutionary war and was the son of John Lovelace, an Englishman. Mary Patterson and Virgil Stewart Lovelace had ten children, two born in Graves Co, Ky and eight born in Lovelaceville, Ballard Co, Ky. Only three of their children lived to 1900. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3d7. As shown in the 1870 Ballard Co, Ky census Virgil Stewart Lovelace was a farmer and he and Mary Patterson had a son George Lovelace living with them. The 1880 Ballard Co, Ky census shows Virgil Stewart Lovelace was a dry goods manager and he and Mary Patterson had their children George Lovelace and Pearl Lovelace along with a niece, Mollie (born 1863 Ky) living with them. According to the 1920 Ballard Co, Ky census Mary Patterson was a widow and she was living with Roy L Atherton (born 1889 Ky) and his wife Oma, maiden name unknown (born 1894 Ky) as a boarder (they were not related). Mary Patterson died the 13th of May 1932 in Ballard Co, Ky. 8) Dr Robert Thomas Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3d8) was born the 10th of September 1846 in Warren Co, Ky and raised in Graves Co and Ballard Co, Ky. According to the 1860 Ballard Co, Ky census Robert Thomas Hocker was living at home with his parents and attending school. Robert Thomas Hocker started his study of medicine when 20 years old and under the preceptorship of Dr Thompson and Dr Gilson in Paducah, Ky for one year. He then went to the University of Nashville and graducated in 1870. Robert Thomas Hocker started his practice in 1868 in Ballard Co, Ky. He then returned to Graves Co, Ky and practiced there for nine years. As shown in the 1870 Ballard Co, Ky census we find Robert Thomas Hocker a physician and living with Dr William D Senter and his wife Susan. Robert Thomas Hocker married Melinda Sarah Peck the 3rd of December 1873 in Graves Co, Ky. Melinda Sarah was born in September 1847 in Ky the daughter of James Madison Peck (born 1809 Mass, a farmer, died 1873 Ky) and Melinda Sarah James (Rider ?) (born 1822 Tn, died 1907 Ky) who married the 26th of May 1840 in Monroe Co, Ky. Melinda Sarah’s maternal grandparents are Thomas James (died 1839 Ky) and Mary James (born 1795, died 1888 Ky) who married in 1812. Melinda Sarah’s paternal grandparents are Ebenezer Peck (born 1784, died 1851 Ky) and Nancy Horton in 1805. Melinda Sarah’s great paternal grandparents are Philip Peck (born 1747 Rehoboth, Ma, died 1805 Rehoboth, Ma) and Ruth Williams (died 1830) who married in 1768 in Ma. Melinda Sarah’s maternal great grandparents are David James (born 1764 Wales, died 1843 Ky) and Nancy Atchison (born 1772, died 1840 Ky), the parents of Mary James (born 1795, died 1888 Ky). Melinda Sarah and Robert Thomas Hocker had two children, one born in Graves Co, Ky and the other born in Carlisle Co, Ky. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3d8. Robert Thomas Hocker re-located to Arlington, Carlisle Co, Ky and opened a drug store and maintained his practice in Arlington, Ky. According to the 1880 Graves Co, Ky census Robert Thomas Hocker’s niece Sarah Margaret Webb was living with them along with a hired hand B F Hall (born 1860 Ky). The 1900 Ky sndx shows Robert Thomas Hocker and Melinda Sarah with their daughter Dora Hocker and Melinda Sarah’s widow mother living with them on Hobbs St, Arlington, Carlisle Co, Ky. That 1900 census also shows that Robert Thomas Hocker was a physician and he owned his home free of any mortage. Melinda Sarah [Peck] Hocker died the 5th of June 1916 in Graves Co, Ky. According to the 1920 and Ky sndx and Robert Thomas Hocker was a widower and was living with his son Robert Peck Hocker and his family on Hobbs St, Arlington, Carlisle Co, Ky. The 1930 Carlisle Co, Ky census shows Robert Thomas Hocker as a retired physician and the head-of-the-household with his son Robert Peck Hocker and his family living with him. Robert Thomas Hocker died the 20th of December 1932 in Carlisle Co, Ky. 9) William Rice Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3d9) was born the 17th of February 1849 in Warren Co, Ky and raised in Graves Co, Ballard Co and McCracken Co, Ky. According to the 1870 Graves Co, Ky census William Rice Hocker was living at home with his parents. William Rice Hocker married Myrah Malinda Humphrey about 1872 in McCracken Co, Ky. Myrah Malinda was born in January 1851 in Ky the daughter of William Humphrey and Jane Spicer who married the 6th of April 1850 in Hickman Co, Ky. Myrah Malinda’s paternal grandparents are John Humphrey and Rebecca Lovelace who married the 31st of October 1820 in McCracken Co, Ky. Myrah Malinda and William Rice Hocker had four daughters, all born in McCracken Co, Ky. For information about their daughters, see Chapter 8c2e3d9. According to the 1880 McCracken Co, Ky census William Rice Hocker was a farmer and he and Myrah Malinda and their first two daughters along with nephew Warren Webb and sister-in-law R F Humphery (born 1858 Ky). The 1900 McCracken Co, Ky census William Rice Hocker was a farmer and owned his farm free of any mortage. That same 1900 census shows William Rice Hocker’s step-mother Martha Ann was living with them. According to the 1910 Ky sndx shows William Rice Hocker and Myrah Malinda with their daughter Mattie and William Rice’s brother John Yantis Hocker was living with them. The 1920 Ky sndx and 1930 McCracken Co, Ky census shows that William Rice Hocker and Myrah Malinda had their daughter Mattie Hocker living with them in Florence Station. William Rice Hocker died the 15th of August 1939 in Paducah, McCracken Co,Ky Rebecca [Magill] Hocker died in September 1852 and then Washington Hocker married Mary J Lackey the 7th of April 1853 in Warren Co, Ky. Mary was born in 1818 in Ky the daughter of Samuel Lackey (born 1787 Va, a wheelright and farmer) and Jane Miller (born 1793 Ky) of Warren Co, Ky. This marriage did not produce any children. Mary J [Lackey] Hocker died about 1865 and then Washington Hocker married her sister Martha Ann Lackey the 13th of April 1865 in Marshall Co, Ky. This marriage did not produced any children. 7c2e3e) Nicholas Hocker sr (see Chapter 6c2d3e). (Source Code – Cd 229, Cd 233.) Nicholas Hocker was born in 1806 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co, Ky. Nicholas Hocker sr married twice, first to Mary Ann Morton the 27th of February 1832 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Mary Ann was born in 1811 in Ky (some say born in Va) the daughter of Nathaniel Morton (died before 1830) and Elizabeth Thompson who married the 8th of September 1802 in Albemarle Co, Va. Nicholas Hocker sr was a farmer. Mary Ann and Nicholas Hocker sr had four children before Mary Ann’s death, all born in Lincoln Co, Ky as follows:1) Sarah E “Sally” Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3e1) was born in 1832 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co, Ky and migrated with her family to Missouri in the mid to late 1840’s. Sarah E “Sally” Hocker married John C Agnew about 1849 in Jackson Co, Mo. John was born in 1826 in Pennsylvania. Sally and John Agnew had three children as of 1860, one born in Pa, and the other two born in Jackson Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3e1. John Agnew was a druggist as shown in the 1860 Jackson Co, Mo census. That 1860 census also shows that Sally’s brother George Hocker was living with them. 2) George A Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3e2) was born April 1837 in Lincoln Co, Ky and migrated with his family to Missouri in the mid to late 1840’s. George Hocker was living with his sister Sally and her family and working with Sally’s husband as a druggist clerk according to the 1860 Jackson Co, Mo census. George A Hocker married Hannah Foster about 1865 in Jackson Co, Mo. Hannah was born in October 1848 in Il the daughter of George W Foster (born 1818 Ky, a Methodist minister) and Almira L, maiden name unknown (born 1833 Vt) of Jackson Co, Mo. Hannah and George Hocker had five children, four born in Mendocino Co, Ca and one born in Jackson Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3e2. According to the 1880 Ca sndx George Hocker and Hannah and their five children were living in Ukiah Twp, Mendocino Co, Ca. The 1900 Ca sndx had George Hocker and Hannah with their daughter Clara Hocker living at 930 College Ave, Santa Rosa, Ca. According to the 1920 Sonoma Co, Ca census George Hocker was a real estate agent and he and Hannah were living alone in Santa Rosa Twp. Hannah [Foster] Hocker died before 1930 since we find George Hocker a widower and moved back to Missouri and was living as a roomer with J H Greymon and Louisa and family in Sedalia, Pettis Co, Mo. 3) Nathaniel Morton Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e3e3) was born in 1839 in Lincoln Co, Ky and migrated with his family to Missouri in the mid to late 1840’s. Nathaniel Morton Hocker was living with Thomas Barker (born 1828 Ky) according to the 1860 Jackson Co, Mo census. Nathaniel Morton Hocker married Mary V Carness about 1873 in Jackson Co, Mo. Mary was born in September 1842 in Missouri. Mary and Nathaniel Morton Hocker had four children, all born in Jackson Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3e3. The 1880 Mo sndx shows Nathaniel Morton Hocker and Mary with their three eldest children and living with James Carness. As shown in the 1900 Mo sndx Mary is a widow and has her children, George Hocker, William Hocker, and Julia Hocker living with her at 1813 Holly St, Kansas City, Jackson Co, Mo. 4) Nicholas Hocker jr (see Chapter 8c2e3e4) was born in October 1844 in Lincoln Co, Ky and migrated to Missouri in the mid to late 1840’s. According to the 1860 Jackson Co, Mo census Nicholas Hocker jr and his father and step-mother were living with the Comingo family. That 1860 census shows Nicholas Hocker jr was attending school and working as a farm hand. Nicholas Hocker jr married Julia Marie Wilson the 27th of October 1870 in Jackson Co, Mo. Julia Marie was born the 27th of October 1850 in Mo the daughter of John Wilson (born 19 June 1805 Calvert Co, Mo) and Margaret R Strode (born 25 September 1808 Bourbon Co, Ky) who married the 24th of April 1826 in Sumner Co, Tn. Julia Marie and Nicholas Hocker jr had five children, all born in Jackson Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3e4. As shown in the 1880 Mo sndx Nicholas Hocker jr and Julia Marie and their children were living in Independence, Jackson Co, Mo. The 1900 Mo sndx has them living at 501 Hocker Ave, Independence, Jackson Co, Mo. The 1910 Mo sndx we find Nicholas Hocker jr and Julia Marie with their children Catherine Hocker and Roger Hocker along with Roger’s wife Cerrie living with them. According to the 1920 Mo sndx Nicholas Hocker jr and Julia Marie had their daughter Catherine Hocker and their son Roger Hocker living with them. (Source Code – Cd 234.) After Mary Ann [Morton] Hocker died then Nicholas Hocker sr married Mary Lee the 20th of March 1855 in Boyle Co, Ky but they did not have any children. 7c2e3f) Mary “Milley” “Polly” Hocker (see Chapter 6c2e3f). (Source Code – Cd 229.) Mary “Milley” and/or “Polly” Hocker was born in 1812 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co, Ky. Mary Hocker married Alexander R Givens the 22nd of April 1841 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Alexander was born in 1810 Ky the son of Alexander Givens and Nancy Logan who married the 19th of June 1799 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Mary and Alexander Givens had nine children as follows: 1) Minerva J Givens (see Chapter 8c2e3f1) was born in 1842 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co, Ky and Johnson Co, Mo. Minerva J Givens married Lindsay Marshal Windsor the 23rd of January 1868 in Johnson Co, Mo. Lindsay Marshal was born in May 1843 in Mo the son of John Windsor (born 1802 NC, a farmer) and Elizabeth Barnett (born 1812 Ky) who married the 30th of August 1838 in Johnson Co, Mo. Minerva and Lindsay Marshal Windsor had at least four children we know of, all born in Johnson Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3f1. Lindsay Marshal Windsor was a farmer. The 1870 Johnson Co, Mo census has Lindsay Marshal Windsor and Minerva with their son Robert Windsor. As shown in the 1880 Johnson Co, Mo census has Robert Windsor, John Windsor and Mary Windsor. The 1900 Johnson Co, Mo census shows that Lindsay Marshal Windsor was a farmer and he owned his farm, and he and Minerva had the following children living at home: John Windsor, Mary Windsor and Lilly Windsor. According to the 1920 Johnson Co, Mo census Lindsay Marshal Winsor and Minerva had their daughter Mary Windsor with them and he was renting the farm. 2) Mahala R Givens was born in 1844 in Lincoln Co, Ky and when three years old migrated with her family to Johnson Co, Mo. Mahala R Givens married John Riley Lundy the 19th of July 1860 in Johnson Co, Mo. John Riley was born the 15th of August 1836 the son of Samuel Lundy (born 20 May 1809 Va) and Lathena Collins (born September 1807 Va) who married the 8th of March 1831 in Grayson Co, Va. Mahala and John Riley Lundy had a son, John C Lundy born in 1862 in Johnson Co, Mo. John Riley Lundy died in January 1863. It is very possible that Mahala’s husband John Riley Lundy was killed during the civil war. We find Mahala a widow and her and her son John Lundy living with her parents according to the 1870 Johnson Co, Mo census. (Source Code – Cd 234.) 3) David A Givens was born in 1845 in Lincoln Co, Ky and when a infant migrated to Johnson Co, Mo. David A Givens married Lydia Ann Burk the 28th of July 1868 in McDonald Co, Mo. (Source Code – Cd 234.) At this time we do not know anymore about this couple. 4) Sarah A Givens was born in 1847 in Johnson Co, Mo and raised in Johnson Co, Mo. Sarah A Givens married John Tackett the 8th of May 1870 in Johnson Co, Mo. (Source Code – Cd 234.) At this time we do not know anymore about this couple. 5) Laura Bell Givens (see Chapter 8c2e3f5) was born in 1849 in Johnson Co, Mo and was attending school according to the 1870 Johnson Co, Mo census. Laura Bell Givens married Joseph Windsor the 29th of June 1875 in Johnson Co, Mo. Joseph was born in 1851 in Johnson Co, Mo the son of John Windsor (born 1802 NC, a farmer) and Elizabeth Barnett (born 1812 Ky) who married the 30th of August 1838 in Johnson Co, Mo. Laura Bell and Joseph Windsor had a son before his early death, born in Johnson Co, Mo. For information about their son, see Chapter 8c2e3f5. The 1880 Johnson Co, Ky census shows Laura Bell a widow and she and her son were living with her sister Minerva and her family, see Chapter 8c2e3f1. 6) Philip Hocker Givens was born in 1851 in Johnson Co, Mo and was attending school and living with his parents according to the 1870 Johnson Co, Mo census. Samuel Wilson was living with his widow mother and brother Nicholas Hocker Wilson and working on the farm in Jackson, Johnson Co, Mo according to the 1880 Mo sndx. Apparently Samuel Wilson never married. 3) Martha A Wilson was born in 1851 in Lincoln Co, Ky and was raised in Parke Co, In. As shown in the 1870 Dallas Co, Mo census and the 1880 Mo sndx Martha Wilson was living at home with her widow mother and brothers. 4) Nicholas Hocker Wilson (see Chapter 8c2e3m4) was born the 28th of December 1854 in Rockville, Park Co, In and raised in Park Co, In until he got diptheria when he was 10 or 11. His parents felt they would move to California for his health, but they made it to Missouri where Nicholas Hocker Wilson’s father died. According to the 1870 Dallas Co, Mo census shows that Nicholas Hocker Wilson was living at home with his widow mother and siblings, and was attending school while working on the family farm. Nicholas Hocker Wilson’s widow mother purchased a farm in Johnson Co, Mo before 1880 and they remained in Missouri. Nicholas Hocker Wilson married twice, first to Sarah F Davis the 2nd of October 1879 in Johnson Co, Mo. Sarah was born in 1858 in Mo the daughter of Wilburn Davis (born 1822 Tn, a farmer) and Arminda J, maiden name unknown (born 1827 Tn). Sarah and Nicholas Hocker Wilson had a daughter, born and raised in Missouri. The 1880 Mo sndx shows that Nicholas Hocker Wilson and his wife Sarah were living with his widower mother and working on the farm. Family history tells that one day Nicholas Hocker Wilson came home from work to find his wife had been unfaithful, so Nicholas left and never returned. They divorced and then Nicholas Hocker Wilson went to California in 1882 to start all over again. Nicholas Hocker Wilson married the widow Lucinda Frances [Kellogg] Stevenson the 9th of September 1888 in Chico, Butte Co, Ca. Lucinda Frances had been married to Hugh Stevenson, who had TB when they married. They had a child, who died of whooping cough. Then Hugh Stevenson died three months later. Lucinda Frances was a bride, a mother, then lost her baby , and then a widow- all within 18 months. Lucinda Frances was born the 4th of November 1862 in Nord, Butte Co, Ca the daughter of George Washington Kellogg and Nancy Caroline Thompson. Lucinda Frances and Nicholas Hocker Wilson had seven children. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e3m5. Nicholas Hocker Wilson was a rancher and had his ranch in Chico, Butte Co, Ca. In 1889 Nicholas Hocker Wilson and Lucinda Frances moved to Washington to farm and they loaded the livestock in a freight car. Things did not go well and they returned in a covered wagon with their eldest daughter, who was born in Washington. Then Nicholas Hocker Wilson worked for the City Hat Company and the Barnard Livery. He was described as a man who knew his horses and was a stage driver for Richardson Springs, a resort community. Nicholas Hocker Wilson died 10th of February 1936 and Lucinda Frances [Kellogg] Wilson died the 26th of November 1949 and both died in Chico, Butte Co, Ca. The 1880 Marion Co, Ky census shows that James Milburn Boarman’s sons Jeffery Boarman and Joseph Boarman, from his first marriage, were living with him and Mollie. As shown in the 1860 Lincoln Co, Ky census Martha Emma was a widow and was living with her maternal uncle William Lackey and his wife Martha [Hocker]. Martha Emma Broaddus then married Newton Hill the 28th of February 1872 in Madison Co, Ky. Newton was born the son Alexander Hill and Sarah Cummins who married the 12th of April 1834 in Bourbon Co, Ky. Lucinda and Owen Hocker had three children, all born in Boyle Co, Ky as follows: 5) George Harrison Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e7c5) was born the 1st of September 1856 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co and Boyle Co, Ky. George Harrison Hocker married Mary C “Mollie” Boling about 1887 in Boyle Co, Ky. Mollie was born in June 1862 in Ky the daughter of Benjamin Boling and Eveline E Gains who married the 31st of December 1838 in Mercer Co, Ky. Mollie and George Harrison had three children, two born in Lincoln Co, Ky and one born in Boyle Co, Ky. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7c5. George Harrison Hocker was a druggist when he was 24 years old and about the turn of the century was either the county clerk or circuit clerk of Boyle Co, Ky. George Harrison Hocker was the Boyle County Tax Commissioner between July 1919 and July 1920. According to the 1900 Ky sndx George Harrison Hocker and Mollie and their two children were living with Mollie’s widow mother Eveline in Junction City, Boyle Co, Ky. The 1920 Ky sndx shows George Harrison Hocker and Mollie had their daughter Ruth living in Boyle Co, Ky. As shown in the 1930 Pulaski Co, Ky census George Harrison Hocker and Mollie had their two youngest, Carrol Hocker and Ruth Hocker living with them. George Harrison Hocker died the 10th of April 1943 in Boyle Co, Ky and is buried in the Parksville Cemetery in Boyle Co, Ky and Mary C “Mollie” [Boling] Hocker died the 26th of May 1943 in Madison Co, Ky. 6) Mary Susan “Mollie” Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e7c6) was born the 16th of June 1862 in Lincoln Co, Ky and was living at home with her parents as shown in the 1880 Boyle Co, Ky census. Mary Susan Hocker married Harvey N Hopper in Parksville, Boyle Co, Ky. Harvey Hopper was born in 1863 in Kentucky. Mary Susan and Harvey Hopper had a son, born in Boyle Co, Ky. Harvey N Hopper died the 7th of January 1937 in Mercer Co, Ky and Mary Susan “Mollie” [Hocker] Hopper died the 19th of April 1944 and both are buried in the Parksville Cemetery. 7) Sarah E “Sally” Hocker was born in 1863 in Lincoln Co, Ky and was living at home with her parents according to the 1880 Boyle Co, Ky census. Sarah E “Sally” Hocker married a “Gibson” in Danville, Lincoln Co, Ky. Sally and her husband had a daughter, Catherine Gibson born in Boyle Co, Ky. 7c2e7d) Newton Hocker (see Chapter 6c2e7d). Nancy and Newton Hocker had five children, all born in Shelby Co, Ky as follows: 1) Mary Virginia Hocker was born the 20th of February 1836 in Shelby Co, Ky and living with her parents as shown in the 1860 Shelby Co, Mo census. Mary Virginia Hocker migrated with her family during the 1860’s to Missouri. Mary Virginia Hocker was living with her parents in 1870 Johnson Co, Mo census and 1880 Mo sndx. Apparently Mary Virginia Hocker never married. Mary Virginia Hocker died the 28th of September 1891 in Johnson Co, Mo and is buried in Knobnoster, Mo. 2) James T Hocker was born the 20th of October 1837 in Shelby Co, Mo and raised in Shelby Co, Mo. In 1860 and 1870 James T Hocker did not migrate to Missouri with his parents and siblings but was living with other families as a boarder in Jefferson Co, Ky. James T Hocker married Kate, maiden name unknown about 1876 in Jefferson Co, Ky. Kate was born in 1853 on the ship that her parents took to America. Kate and James Hocker had a daugther, Virgo Hocker born in 1878 in Jefferson Co, Ky. According to the 1880 Ky sndx James Hocker and Kate and their daughter were living in Jefferson Co, Ky. James T Hocker died in 1904 in Louisville, Jefferson Co, Ky. 3) Manderville Elston Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e7d3) was born the 11th of September 1839 in Shelby Co, Ky and raised in Shelby Co, Ky. Manderville Elston Hocker enlisted in confederate army the 8th of October 1861 in Bowling Green, Warren Co, Ky. Manderville Elston Hocker married three times, first to Lucy A Huff the 19th of June 1868 in Cass Co, Mo. Lucy was born in 1848 in Mo the daughter of Montraville Huff (born 1814 Ky, a farmer) and Amanda Thornton (born 1816 Ky) who married the 3rd of March 1836 in Johnson Co, Mo. According to the 1870 Cass Co, Mo census Manderville Elston Hocker was a dry goods merchant. Lucy and Manderville Elston Hocker had a son before Lucy’s early death, born in Cass Co, Mo. This son went to live with Lucy’s parents after Lucy died. For information about this son see Chapter 8c2e7d3. Manderville Elston Hocker then married Catherine Martin the 23rd of January 1976 in Larimer Co, Co. Apparently Catherine died shortly after the marriage and we do not know whether they had any children. Manderville Elston Hocker eventually married again to Margaret “Maggie” Winkler in 1900 in Johnson Co, Mo. Maggie was born in December 1869 in Mo the daughter of John C Winkler (born October 1845 NC, a baker) and Sarah E, maiden name unknown (born August 1849 NC) of Johnson Co, Mo. We know of no children from this second marriage. Manderville Elston Hocker died the 5th of November 1907 in Johnson Co, Mo. (Source Code – Cd 234.) 4) George Newton Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e7d4) was born the 17th of August 1841 in Shelby Co, Ky and raised in Shelby Co, Ky. It is possible that George Newton Hocker lived in the Gold Hill settlement in Nebraska and was working as a gold miner and living with a Thomas Yokum in 1860. George Newton Hocker married Mary C Scearce the 1st of September 1868 in Pettis Co, Mo. Mary was born in July 1844 in Ky the daughter of William J Scearce (born 1815 Ky, a farmer) and Mary K Truman (born 1818 Ky) who married the 17th of May 1838 in Shelby Co, Ky. As shown in the 1870 Johnson Co, Mo census George Newton Hocker was a farmer and he and Mary had their first two sons. Mary and George Newton Hocker had four children, three born in Johnson Co, Mo and one born in Pettis Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7d4. The 1880 Pettis Co, Mo census shows George Newton Hocker and Mary with four children. George Newton Hocker owned his farm free of any mortage according to the 1900 Johnson Co, Mo census and his widower father was living with them and was listed as the landlord. The 1920 Mo sndx shows George Newton Hocker and Mary living alone in Jackson Co, Mo. George Newton Hocker died the 26th of April 1920 and is buried in Pomona Cemetery, Los Angeles Co, Ca. According to the 1860 Shelby Co, Mo census Sarah Eliza was living at home with her parents. Sarah Eliza Hocker married twice, first to R A Wellman about 1870 in Johnson Co, Mo. Sarah Eliza and R A Wellman had a daughter, before her first husband died, born in Johnson Co, Mo. See Chapter 8c2e7d5 for information about their children. Then Sarah Eliza Hocker married Jesse T Riddle the 19th of September 1875 in Pettis Co, Mo. At this time we do not know of any children from this second marriage. Jane Elizabeth was born in 1836 in Ky and a twin to her brother John Greer, and the daughter of Nathan Greer (born 1800 Ky, a farmer) and Elizabeth Ferguson (died before 1850 Ky) who married the 14th of April 1833 in Grainger Co, Tn. Jane Elizabeth’s widow father then married Jane Dove the 5th of February 1850 in Pulaski Co, Ky. Jane Elizabeth was living with her aunt Mary as shown in the 1850 Pulaski Co, Ky census. Isaac was born in 1827 in Ky the son of Samuel Evans (born 1784 NC, a farmer) and Marhary Modrell (died before 1850 Ky) who married the 1st of January 1817 in Pulaski Co, Ky. Isaac Evans was living with his widower father and working as a farmer according to the 1850 Pulaski Co, Ky census. At this time we do not know anymore about this couple. John F Cash married twice, first to Malla A Bastin the 7th of June 1866 in Lincoln Co, Ky and she died shortly after the marriage without having any children. Then John F Cash married his third cousin (see paragraph 7c2b6e7) Lucy J Lewis the 17th of November 1870 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Lucy was born in November 1846 in Lincoln Co, Ky the daughter of John M Lewis (born 1812 in Lincoln Co, Ky) and Mary Ann Hocker (born 18 September 1815 Lincoln Co, Ky) who married the 6th of November 1834 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Lucy and John Cash had four children, all born in Lincoln Co, Ky. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7e7. The 1880 Lincoln Co, Ky census shows John Cash’s nephew John Cash (born 1858 Ky) living with them. According to the 1860 Lincoln Co, Ky census Milton Green Cash was attending school. Milton Green Cash was living with his brothers John Cash and George Walker Cash and working on John Cash’s farm as shown in the 1870 Lincoln Co, Ky census. Milton Green Cash and Henry Hocker Cash migrated to Bosque Co, Tx sometime in the 1870’s. The 1880 Bosque Co, Tx census shows Milton Green Cash and his brother Henry Hocker Cash living there. 11) Sarah Cash was born in 1849 in Lincoln Co, Ky. This is the second time John Cash and Elizabeth Hocker named a child Sarah. This daughter must have died before 1860. This Sarah brothers us, since the other Sarah was still single and unmarried at the time of this Sarah’s birth. 12) Henry Hocker Cash (see Chapter 8c2e7e12) was born in December 1852 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co, Ky. According to the 1870 Lincoln Co, Ky census Henry Hocker Cash was living at home with his father and step-mother and attending school while working on the farm. Henry Hocker Cash along with his brother Milton Green Cash migrated to Bosque Co, Tx sometime during the 1870’s, but Henry return before 1890. Henry Hocker Cash married the widow Mattie J [Padget] Ross the 25th of December 1890 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Mattie was born in February 1862 in Kentucky. Mattie Padget had been married to Newton Ross, and we do not know of any children from this previous marriage. Mattie and Henry Hocker Cash had four children as of 1900, all born in Lincoln Co, Ky. Eliza Jane and Joseph Hocker had eight children, the first four born in Lincoln Co, Ky and the last four born in Schuyler Co, Mo as follows: 1) Mary Margaret “Mintie” Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e7h1) was born the 5th of March 1844 in Lincoln Co, Ky and raised in Lincoln Co, Ky until her family migrated to Schuyler Co, Mo when she was about ten years old. Mary Margaret Hocker married James Reese Byrn the 5th of December 1864 in Scotland Co, Mo. James Reese was born the 4th of February 1841 the son of Harvey Ranson Byrn (born 1817 Tn, a farmer) and Marinda Harrison (born 1822 In) who married the 10th of March 1836 in Harrison Co, In. One input shows that James Reese Byrn was the son of Joseph Byrn. Mary Margaret and James Reese Byrn had five children before Mary Margaret’s early death, all born in Schuyler Co, Mo. As shown in the 1860 Schuyler Co, Mo census Nancy Jane Hocker was attending school. Nancy Jane Hocker married widower Hampton “Hamp” B Ketchum the 6th of March 1864 in Scotland Co, Mo. Hampton was born in April 1837 the son of Joseph Ketchum and Sophia Parsons who married the 4th of April 1835 in Clay Co, Mo. Hampton Ketchum had been married to Margaret, maiden name unknown (born 1843 Mo, died 1863 Mo) and had two children from that marriage, Amanda Robin Ketchum (born 1851 Mo) and James E Ketchum (born June 1862 Mo). Hampton’s daughter Amanda Robin Ketchum, from his previous marriage, married Nancy Jane’s paternal uncle Mace Hocker, see Chapter 8e2e7g5. As shown in the 1880 Schuyler Co, Mo census has Hampton Ketchum and Nancy Jane with James Ketchum (from Hampton’s first marriage) and Mary Ketchum, Joseph Walter Ketchum, John Marion Ketchum, and Thadeus Ketchum with them in Independence, Mo. According to the 1900 Monroe Co, Mo census Hampton Ketchum was renting is farm and he and Nancy Jane had the following children living with them: Thadeus Ketchum, Virgil Ketchum, Lloyd Ketchum, and Hattie Ketchum. The 1910 Monroe Co, Mo census has Hampton Ketchum and Nancy Jane with the following grandchildren living with them: Lillie Ketchum, Iva Ketchum, and Nathaniel Ketchum. George T Hocker married Mary E Byrn the 31st of May 1873 in Scotland Co, Mo. Mary was born the 17th of March 1856 the daughter of Harvey Ranson Byrn (born 1817 In, a farmer) and Marinda Harrison (born 1822 In) who married the 10th of March 1836 in Harrison Co, In. The 1870 Schuyler Co, Mo census shows that Lucinda Francis Hocker was attending school. Lucinda Francis Hocker married James Henry Couch the 25th of December 1870 in Schuyler Co, Mo. James Henry was born in 1851 in Mo the son of Thomas Couch (born 1822 Va, a farmer) and Nancy, maiden name unknown (born 1826 Va) of Schuyler Co, Mo. Lucinda Francis and James Henry Couch had four children as of 1880, all born in Schuyler Co, Mo. For information about their children see Chapter 8c2e7h4. James Reese Byrn had been married to Elizabeth Alice’s sister the late Mary Margaret [Hocker] as shown in paragraph 8e2e7h1. Elizabeth Alice and James Reese Byrn had eight children, all born in Schuyler Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7h5. James Reese Byrn was a farmer and owned his farm free of any mortage as shown in the 1900 Schuyler Co, Mo census. James Reese Byrn died the 29th of January 1916 in Schuyler Co, Mo. Elizabeth Alice [Hocker] Byrn died the 3rd of July 1929 in Schuyler Co, Mo and both her and James Reese Byrn are buried in the Coffey Cemetery. The 1880 Schuyler Co, Mo census shows us that Lafayette Baxter Hocker was living with his widow mother and taking care of the farm. Lafayette Baxter Hocker married Leona M Williams the 14th of November 1882 in Schuyler Co, Mo. Leona was born in February 1862 in Missouri. Leona and Lafayette Baxter Hocker had eight children, all born in Schuyler Co, Mo. For information about their children see Chapter 8c2e7h6. Freeman Farnsworth Loe was a farmer and they lived on their farm in Scotland Co, Mo until they moved to Memphis, Scotland Co, Mo in December 1918. Nancy Evelina and Freeman Farnsworth Loe had three children, all born in Scotland Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7i3. According to the 1880 Schuyler Co, Mo census Samuel Hocker was living at home with his parents and working on his father’s farm. Samuel Hocker married Susan H Powell the 6th of November 1883 in Scotland Co, Mo. Susan was born about 1863 in Mo and her parents were neighbors in Schuyler Co, Mo. Susan and Samuel Hocker and had four children, all born in Schuyler Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7i5. According to the 1920 Mt sndx Samuel Hocker was a widower and was living with his son Almon Hocker and his family in Missoula Co, Mt. (Source Code – Cd 234.) 6) John Thomas Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e7i6) was born the 6th of February 1862 in Schuyler Co, Mo and according to the 1880 Schuyler Co, Mo census was attending school and working on his father’s farm. John Thomas Hocker married Mary Emma Hayward the 10th of November 1887 in Adair Co, Mo. Mary Emma was born the 23rd of March 1861 in Mo the daughter of James M Hayward (born the 12th of January 1841 In, died the 5th of September 1936 Adair Co, Mo) and Bethenia Duncan (died about 1864 Mo). Mary Emma’s father then married Susan Ann Arnold the daughter of Samuel Arnold and Margaret Wilson (the only known sister of John Thomas Hocker’s mother) the 5th of May 1840 in Macon Co, Mo. Shortly before John Thomas Hocker and Mary Emma married he went to Ford Co, Ks (about ten miles from Dodge City, Ks) in a covered wagon and claimed 160 acres of wheat land. He then returned to Mo and they married and went to Ford Co, Ks and lived in a sod shanty on their land. After years of considerable hardship they sold their land returned to Adair Co, Mo very poor. Mary Emma and John Thomas Hocker had two sons, the first born in Ford Co, Ks and the other born in Adair Co, Mo. For information about their sons, see Chapter 8c2e7i6. The 1910 Mo sndx has John Thomas Hocker and Mary Emma and their son Orval Hocker living in Kirksville, Adair Co, Mo. According to the 1920 Adair Co, Mo census John Thomas Hocker was a farmer and owned his farm with a mortage in Benton Twp, Mo. The 1930 Adair Co, Mo census shows that John Thomas Hocker was working as a caretaker at the city park, and he and Mary Emma were living alone. Mary Emma [Hayward] Hocker died the 25th of March 1946 and John Thomas Hocker died the 5th of January 1948 in Adair Co, Mo and both are buried in the Highland Park Cemetery, Kirksville, Adair Co, Mo. Mary “Mollie” Hocker married four times, first to John James Huston the 15th of January 1882 in Scotland Co, Mo. John James was born in 1861 Mo the son of William F Huston and Isabella Forrest who married the 23rd of December 1858 in Linn Co, Mo. Mollie and John James Huston had two sons before John James Huston died, both born in Scotland Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7i7. Then Mollie married Strother M Frogge the 9th of May 1889 in Scotland Co, Mo, but had no children. After Strother M Frogge died Mollie then married Leonard D “Len” Spicknall, the son of John Spicknall (born before 1831 In) and Lydia J, maiden name unknown (born before1845 Oh). After Len Spicknall died Mollie married David P Isaacs, but none of these marriages produced any children other then the first. Mollie’s first husband John James Huston died the 23rd of January 1888 and is buried in the McGrady Cemetery in Scotland Co, Mo. Mary “Mollie” [Hocker] Huston Frogge Spicknall died the 19th of June 1930 in Coffeyville, Montgomery Co, Ks and is buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Coffeyville, Montgomery Co, Ks. Sarah Ostrilla Hocker married Oscar Edward Norris the 8th of January 1891 in Schuyler Co, Mo. Oscar Edward was born in 1866 in Ohio. Sarah Ostrilla Hocker and Oscar Edward Norris had six children, all born in Adair Co, Mo. For information about their children, see Chapter 8c2e7i8. The 1920 Adair Co, Mo census shows Oscar Edward Norris working as a janitor at the state college and Sarah Ostrilla was working there as a cook in the cafeteria. That same census shows that Oscar Edward Norris owned his home with a mortage. Alfred was born in 1814 in Lincoln Co, Ky the son of Philip “Long” Hocker (born the 16th of May 1778 in Montgomery Co, Md and died in 1857 in Lincoln Co, Ky) and Sarah M “Sally” Duncan (born 1782 in Montgomery Co, Md the daughter of Samuel Duncan, she died 1858 Ky) who married the 28th of November 1801 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Martha Ellen was born the 29th of November 1857 in Boone Co, Mo the daughter of James Green jr (born 1825 Henry Co, Ky, died 12 February 1881 Mo) and Pharaba A Silver (born 1825 In to George Silver an Indian chief, Pharaba died before 1907 Mo), both James Green jr and Pharaba A Silver are of Cherokee descent, and married the 7th of June 1842 in Boone Co, Mo. Margaret Marina Kirkland married John Henry Green the 16th of November 1876 in Scotland Co, Mo. John Henry was born the 18th of September 1851 in Boone Co, Mo the son of James Green jr (born 1825 Henry Co, Ky, died 12 February 1881 Mo) and Pharaba A Silvers (born 1825 In, died before 1907 Mo), both James Green jr and Pharaba A Silvers are of Cherokee descent, and married the 7th of June 1842 in Boone Co, Mo. John Henry’s paternal grandparents are James Green sr (born 6 February 1789 in East Tennessee, died 7 August 1866 Boone Co, Mo and is buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery) and his second wife Margaret Peggy London (born 1803 Ky, died 22 September 1885 in Sturgeon, Boone Co, Mo and is buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery) who married the 13th of October 1822 in New Castle, Henry Co, Ky. Lavina was born in 1829 in Tn the daughter of Pleasant M Wear (born 1801 Tn, court clerk) and Fryphena, maiden name unknown (born 1806 Tn) the 7th of April 1847 in Lawrence Co, Mo. Lavina and Nicholas Barnes Hocker had four children, all born in Lawrence Co, Mo as follows: 1) Catharine Mary “Kate” Hocker (see Chapter 8c2e8a1) was born the 3rd of January 1848 in Lawrence Co, Mo and raised in Lawrence Co, Mo. According to the 1860 Lawrence Co, Mo census Kate was attending school. Catharine Mary “Kate” Hocker married Henry George the 15th of January 1867 in Lawrence Co, Mo. Henry was born in 1835 Ky the son of William George and Elizabeth Woodall who married the 9th of August 1820 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Charles Hocker married Sarah Theresa Bell the 25th of May 1879 in Lawrence Co, Mo. Sarah Theresa was born in April 1857 Mo the daughter of Josephus Bell and Margaret Collins who married the 16th of October 1845 in Lawrence Co, Mo. According to the 1900 Lawrence Co, Mo census Charles Hocker was a farmer and owned his farm without a mortage. Elias Putnam was born in 1821 in Ky the son of James West and Sarah Watkins who married the 14th of July 1817 in Harding Co, Ky. Jessie Myers was living at home with her parents according to the 1870 Cass Co, Mo census. Jessie Myers married James D Cooley in January 1870 in Cass Co, Mo. James was born in 1845 in Mo son of George Cooley and Catherine Lineberry who married the 22nd of July 1841 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Jessie [Myers] Cooley died the 21st of September 1872 without having any children and is buried in Pleasant Hill, Cass Co, Mo.
