5a2a) Priscilla Pruitt (see Chapter 4a2a). (Source Code – Cd 184.) Priscilla Pruitt was born in 1721 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Priscilla Pruitt married Captain William D Duvall1 the 20th of October 1743 in the Rock Creek Parish, Prince George’s Co, Md. William was born in 1721 in Prince George’s Co, Md the son of Benjamin Duvall (born 1684 Md the youngest son of Mareen Duvall and Susannah Brashears, and was one of the signers of the petition to create Frederick Co, died 177? Md) and Sophia Griffith (born 27 April 1691 St Anne’s Parish, Md the daughter of William Griffith, Sophia died 19 April 1730 Md) who married in 1713 in Prince George’s Co, Md. William’s paternal grandparents were Mareen Duvall sr (born about 1630 France, and arrived in the colonies in 1659, one of the first French Huguenots in Md and owner of the Middle Plantation in Queen Anne Parish, died 1694 Md) and married several times, his second wife Susannah Brashears (born before 1647 Va, the daughter of Benjamin Brashears, a Huguenot who was born about 1600 and who arrived in Md from Va in 1658, and became a magistrate of Calvert Co, Md and Mary, maiden name unknown). Priscilla and William Durvall had five children, all born in Frederick Co, Md as follows: 1) Samuel Duvall (see Chapter 6a2a1) was born the 24th of December 1747 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Samuel Duvall married Priscilla Ann Dawson the 2nd of January 1774 in Frederick Co, Md by Rev W Adison Priscilla Ann was born the 6th of January 1756 the daughter of John Dawson and Martha Ann, maiden name unknown. Priscilla Ann and Samuel Duvall had three sons, but only one reached manhood, born in Frederick Co, Md. For information about their son, see Chapter 6a2a1. Samuel Duvall sold the 1st of May 1779 “Resurvey on Adventure” to Henry Gaither and his wife Margaret Stewart. Priscilla Ann waived all dower rights. Samuel Duvall was a private in the horse troops in June 1781. Samuel Duvall served in the House of Delegates in 1782. Samuel Duvall loaned one thousand dollars to the State of Maryland in 1780. Samuel Duvall was a surveyor. Samuel Duvall died the 17th of January 1811. (Source Codes – Cd 184, Cd 208.) 2) William Duvall was born the 3rd of April 1750 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. William Duvall married Martha Prather. William Duvall of the Lingamore Hundred, was appointed to the committee of correspondence to solicit subscriptions in 1775 to purchase arms and ammunition. William Duvall was a Captain of a militia company of the 4th Battalion on the 29th of November 1775. William Duvall gave the government of Maryland eleven lbs and 15th shillings for arms and ammunition for the militia in 1775. William Duvall died the 28th of July 1826 in Montgomery Co, Md. (Source Code – Cd 184.) 3) Pruitt Duvall was born the 22nd of November 1752 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. (Source Code – Cd 184.) 4) Sophia Duvall (see Chapter 6a2a4) was born the 8th of June 1755 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Sophia Duvall3 married Henry Bayne about 1780. Henry was the son of Ebsworth Bayne and Susanna Middleton (some sources say her sire name is “Lee”). Henry’s paternal grandparents are John Bayne (died before 25 October 1701 Md) and Ann, maiden name unknown of Charles Co, Md. Sophia and Henry Bayne had nine children. For information about their children, see Chapter 6a2a4. According to Harry Wright Newman’s book “Mareen Duvall of Middle Plantation”, he describes Henry Bayne as the “Master of the Ship Hope” which performed good service during the Revolutionary War. Apparently Henry Bayne and Sophia migrated to Ohio after they married and before 1790. (Source Code – Cd 184, Cd 208.) 5) Mareen Duvall was born about 1758 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Mareen Duvall married Rachel Howard the 8th of July 1789 in Frederick Co, Md. (Source Code – Cd 184.) 5a2d) Samuel Pruitt jr (see Chapter 4a2d). (Source Codes – LCA, MCC2.) Samuel Pruitt jr2 was born in 1730 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Samuel Pruitt jr married Lucy Owen in 1754 in Frederick Co, Md. Lucy and Samuel Pruitt jr had nine children, three born in Frederick Co, Md and six born in Halifax Co, Va as follows: 1) Philip Pruitt was born in 1756 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md and Halifax Co, Va. Philip Pruitt married Ann, maiden name unknown. Philip Pruitt died in Kentucky. (Source Code – LCA) 2) Zachariah Pruitt was born in 1758 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md and Halifax Co, Va. Zachariah Pruitt married Jane Burgess the 17th of October 1785 in Pittsylvania Co, Va by Rev Samuel Harris. Consent for this marriage was given by Jane’s father Edward Burgess. Jane was born in 1757 the daughter of Edward Burgess and Margaret, maiden name unknown. The security was provided by his kinfolk (third cousin, once removed) Benjamin Thrasher jr (see Chapter 4c1h). (Source Code – LCA.) 4) Samuel Pruitt III (see Chapter 6a2d4) was born the 10th of September 1762 in Halifax Co, Va and raised in Halifax Co, Va. Samuel Pruitt III married twice, first to Lavina Walters the 1st of January 1789 in Pittsylvania Co, Va by Rev Richard Elliott the Methodist minister. The security was provided by her father, Robert Walters jr. Lavina was the daughter of Robert Walters jr and Mary, maiden name unknown, and the granddaughter of Robert Walters sr and Johnnah McBee. Lavina and Samuel Pruitt III had seven children that we know of, all born in Pittsylvania Co,Va. Lavina [Walters] Pruitt died the 13th of February 1813 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Then Samuel Pruitt III married Keziah Stokes Conolly the 15th of November 1814 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Keziah Stokes and Samuel Pruitt III had a son, born in Pittsylvania Co, Va. For information about all of Samuel Pruitt the III’s children, see Chapter 6a2d4. (Source Codes – LCA.) 5) Elizabeth Pruitt was born in 1763 in Halifax Co, Va and raised in Halifax Co, Va. Elizabeth Pruitt married Zachariah Butts the 26th of April 1794 in Pittsylvania Co, Va by Rev Richard Elliott the Methodist minister. Elizabeth’s father Samuel Pruitt consented and the security was provided by Bazel Hawker (Hocker). Apparently Elizabeth [Pruitt] Butts died, since in 1805 we find Zachariah Butts married to Drusilla Hocker (Hawker) and they were found living in Warren Co, NC with their daughter Nancy H Butts. (Source Codes – LCA, CLK2.) 6) Benjamin Pruitt (see Chapter 6a2d6) was born 1765 in Halifax Co, Va and raised in Halifax Co, Va. Benjamin Pruitt married Mary Walters. Mary was born in 1777 in Pittsylvania Co, Va the daughter of Robert Walters jr and Mary, maiden name unknown. Mary and Benjamin Pruitt had two children we know of. For information about their children, see Chapter 6a2d6. (Source Code – LCA.) 7) Mary “Polly” Pruitt (see Chapter 5c4h) was born in 1767 in Halifax Co, Va and raised in Halifax Co, Va. Mary “Polly” Pruitt married her second cousin (see paragraph 5c4h) Bazel Hocker (Hawker) the 28th of March 1794 in Pittsylvania Co, Va by Rev Richard Elliott the Methodist minister. Bazel was born in 1772 in Prince George’s Co, Md the son of Ambrose Cook Hocker (Hawker) and Lydia Butts about 1759 in Prince George’s Co, Md. Polly and Bazel Hawker had two children before Bazel’s death, born in Pittsylvania Co, Va. See Chapter 5c4h for information about their two children. Bazel Hawker died before the 15th of January 1798 when his will was proved. (Source Codes – LCA.) 8) Joseph (Japath) Pruitt was born 1769 in Halifax Co, Va and raised in Halifax Co, Va. Joseph Pruitt married Mary Elliott the 24th of March 1790 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Mary was the daughter of Jonathan Elliott who consented. The security was provided by Joseph Akin. Mary and Joseph Pruitt had a son with know of, Tilman Dixon Pruitt born the 19th of May 1801. Joseph Pruitt died the 12th of February 1805 in Franklin Co, Ga. (Source Code – LCA.) 9) Sally Pruitt was born 1771 in Halifax Co, Va and raised in Halifax Co, Va. Sally Pruitt married twice, first to Charles Seals the 3rd of March 1807 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. After he died she married Henry Stump in 1816 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. At this time this is all we know about this couple. (Source Code – LCA.) 5a2g) Mary Pruitt (see Chapter 4a2g). Mary Pruitt2 was born the 21st of January 1742 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Mary Pruitt married James Boydston. James was born the 21st of September 1738 in Green Co, Pa. Mary and James Boydston had twelve children as follows: 1) Mahuda Boydston was born in 1758. 2) James Boydston jr was born in 1760. James Boydston jr married Sarah Alvis in 1781 in Washington Co, Tn. James Boydston jr died about 1830 in Tennessee. 3) Samuel Boydston was born in 1762. 4) John Boydston was born in 1764. 5) William Boydston was born in 1766. 6) Sarah Boydston was born the 29th of November 1768 in Raleigh, Wake Co, NC. Sarah Boydston married John Stringfield. Sarah [Boydston] Stringfield died in September 1828 in Galena, Jo Daviess Co, Il. 7) Thomas Boydston was born in 1770. 8) Tabitha Boydston was born in 1772. 9) Mahala Boydston was born in 1774. 10) Benjamin Boydston was born the 18th of September 1776 in Rutherford Co, NC. Benjamin Boydston married Mary Gardner the 5th of June 1795 in Rutherford Co, NC. Benjamin Boydston died the 1st of April 1851 in Knox Co, Il. 5a3h) Robert Deakins Hocker1 (see Chapter 4a3h). (Source Codes – RWB1, Cd 206, Cd 208.) Robert Deakins Hocker was born about 1740 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md and Frederick Co, Md. Robert Deakins Hocker jr was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Robert Deakins Hocker married three times, first to Sarah White in 1758 in Frederick Co, Md. Sarah was the daughter of Robert White (born 1680 Md, son of Robert, died before the 14th of April 1758 Md, a Prince George’s Co, Md planter). Sarah and Robert Deakins Hocker had a son as follows: 1) Robert Deakins Hocker jr was born in 1758 in Frederick Co, Md. Robert Deakins Hocker jr must have died when young. Sometime before 1764 Sarah must have died also. (Source Code – Cd 206.) Then Robert Deakins Hocker jr married Ann Waugh the 26th of August 1764 in All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel Co, Md. We do not know of any children from this marriage. Then Robert Deakins Hocker jr married Ruth Prather1 about 1790 in Montgomery Co, Md. Ruth was born in 1764 in Prince George’s Co, Md the daughter of James Prather (born 1736 Md, died before July of 1791) and Ann Turner who married the 12th of September 1756 in Prince George’s Co, Md. Ruth and Robert Deakins Hocker jr had six children, all born in Montgomery Co, Md as follows: 2) William Deakins Hooker (Hocker) was born about 1791 in Charles Co, Md and raised in Montgomery Co, Md. William Deakins Hooker married Mary, maiden name unknown. William Deakins Hooker died about 1815. We do not know of any children from this union. 3) Elizabeth Hooker (Hocker) (see Chapter 6a3h3) was born the 26th of September 1793 in Charles Co, Md and raised in Montgomery Co, Md. Elizabeth Hooker married William Cochran the 9th of December 1814 in Montgomery Co, Md. William Cochran and Elizabeth migrated with Elizabeth’s sisters, Rebecca and Rachael and brother Henson to Ohio about 1816. Elizabeth and William Cochran had five children we know about. For information about their children, see Chapter 6a3h3. According to the 1850 Coshocton Co, Oh census they were living in Perry Township. Elizabeth [Hooker] Cochran died the 16th of December 1854 and William Cochran died the 25th of June 1864 and both are buried in the New Guilford Cemetery in Perry Township, Coshocton Co, Oh. 4) Ann Prather Hooker (Hocker) (see Chapter 6a3h4) was born in 1795 in Charles Co, Md and raised in Montgomery Co, Md. Ann Prather Hooker married James Cooley in 1819 in Montgomery Co, Md. Ann Prather and James Cooley had a son we know of. For information about this son, see Chapter 6a3h4. James Cooley died the 15th of October 1830 after being bitten by a rabid dog. We find Ann Prather living with her son and his family in Barnesville, as shown in the 1850 Montgomery Co, Md census. The 1860 Montgomery Co, Md census shows that Ann Prather was living near Poolesville with William and Margaret Hickman. Margaret was Ann Prather’s late husband’s niece. Sometime after 1860 Ann Prather [Hooker] Cooley died. 5) Henson Hooker (Hocker) (see Chapter 6a3h5) was born the 20th of May 1800 in Charles Co, Md and raised in Montgomery Co, Md. Henson Hooker was likely named after John Henson, the first president of Congress under the Articles of Confederation. Henson Hocker migrated to Coshocton Co, Ohio with his sister Elizabeth and her husband William Cochran, and sisters Rebecca [Hooker] Pigman and Rachel [Hooker] Pigman about 1816. Henson Hooker married Susannah Young the 3rd of February 1820 in Knox Co, Oh. Susannah was born the 5th of August 1798 in Allegany Co, Md the daughter of Cornelius Young (died 1858 Oh) and Catherine Sissler (died before 1838 Oh) who married the 10th of March 1796 in Allegany Co, Md. Susannah’s paternal grandparents are George Young (born 1739 at sea) and Mary Mackenzie who married about 1766 in Maryland. Susannah’s paternal great grandparents are John Young (a native of County Kildare, southwest of Dublin, Ireland, died 1775 Md) and Anne Marie Fitzpatrick. Susannah and Henson Hooker had ten children. For information about their children, see Chapter 6a3h5. Henson Hooker drowned the 5th of January 1844 while fording the Tymochtee River. In 1851 Susannah and her three youngest sons moved to Green Co, Wi were some of her older children lived. Susannah [Young] Hooker died of cholera the 5th of July 1857 in Spring Grove, Green Co, Wi and is buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery. 6) Rebecca Hooker (Hocker) (see Chapter 6a3h6) was born the 23rd of February 1803 in Montgomery Co, Md according to the St Peter’s Episcopal records, and raised in Montgomery Co, Md. Rebecca along with her sister Elizabeth and her husband William Cochran, and Rebecca’s brother Henson and sister Rachael migrated to Ohio about 1816. Rebecca Hooker married Nathaniel Pigman the 10th of June 1819 in Coshocton Co, Oh. Nathaniel was born the 28th of May 1799 the son of Joseph Waters Pigman (born 4 February 1765 Frederick Co, Md, died 9 October 1835 Coshocton Co, Oh) and Ruth Hood for this marriage (born 13 July 1769 Ann Arundel Co, Md, died 14 July 1846 Coshocton Co, Oh) who married the 9th of January 1788 in Baltimore, Md. Nathaniel’s paternal grandparents are Nathaniel Pigman (born about 1735 Prince George’s Co, Md, died about 1801 Montgomery Co, Md) and Ann Waters (born 27 August 1735 Ann Arundel Co, Md, died 15 December 1810 Frederick Co, Md) who married in 1762 in Ann Arundel Co, Md (now Howard Co, Md). Nathaniel’s maternal great grandparents are Joseph Waters and Mary Plummer. Nathaniel’s paternal great grandparents are John Pigman1 (born about 1695, died 1751 Frederick Co, Md) and Vickdorany, maiden name unknown. Rebecca and Nathaniel Pigman had nine children, all born in Coshocton Co, Oh. For information about their children, see Chapter 6a3h6. Nathaniel Pigman died in 1867 in Coshocton Co, Oh and Rebecca [Hooker] Pigman died the 28th of March 1891 in Coshocton Co, Oh and both are buried in Goshen Cemetery in Coshocton Co, Oh. 7) Rachael Hooker (Hocker) (see Chapter 6a3h7) was born the 11th of December 1806 in Montgomery Co, Md and raised in Montgomery Co, Md. Rachael along with her brother Henson and sister Rebecca migrated to Ohio in 1816. Rachael Hooker married the Rev James Ward Pigman in 1823 in Coshocton Co, Oh. James Ward was born the 11th of December 1806 in Oldtown, Allegany Co, Md the son of Joseph Waters Pigman (born 4 February 1765 Frederick Co, Md, died 9 October 1835 Coshocton Co, Oh) and Ruth Hood (born 13 July 1769 Ann Arundel Co, Md, died 14 July 1846 Coshocton Co, Oh) who married the 9th of January 1788 in Baltimore, Md. James Ward’s paternal grandparents are Nathaniel Pigman (born about 1735 Prince George’s Co, Md, died about 1801 Montgomery Co, Md) and Ann Waters (born 27 August 1735 Ann Arundel Co, Md, died 15 December 1810 Frederick Co, Md) who married in 1762 in Ann Arundel Co, Md (now Howard Co, Md). James Ward’s maternal great grandparents are Joseph Waters and Mary Plummer. James Ward’s paternal great grandparents are John Pigman1 (born about 1695, died 1751 Frederick Co, Md) and Vickdorany, maiden name unknown. James Ward Pigman was associated with the Methodist Episcopal Church from 1837 to 1866, when he became a minister of the Christian Union Church. Rachael and the Rev James Ward Pigman had six children, all born in Coshocton Co, Oh. A Pigman family tradition is that Rachael smoked a corncob pipe. James Ward Pigman died of pneumonia while riding his circuit in miserable weather (his death record states he died from Typhoid fever) the 26th of October 1869 in Coshocton Co, Oh and Rachael [Hooker] Pigman died in 1903 in Coshocton Co, Oh and both are buried in the Goshen Cemetery, Coshocton Co, Oh.

Thomas Thrasher was born the 29th of October 1725 in Prince George’s Co, Md and raised in Prince George’s Co, Md. Thomas Thrasher was 15 when his father died, so he took over most of the work and was running the farm. Thomas Thrasher married Martha Lee the 21st of August 1748 in Frederick Co, Md. Martha was born in 1727 in Prince George’s Co, Md the daughter of James Lee (died before his will was proved the 14th of February 1764 Md) and Mary Mitchell ? (daughter of John Mitchell). Martha and Thomas Thrasher had nine children, all born in Frederick Co, Md as follows: 1) Mary Thrasher (see Chapter 6c1a1) was born the 26th of January 1749 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Mary Thrasher married twice, first to William Ridgely about 1771 in Frederick Co, Md. William was born about 1735 in Queen Anne Parish, Prince George’s Co, Md the son Westall Ridgely (born 1706 Md, died 1772 Md) and Sarah Isaac (born 1714 Md) who married about 1732 in Prince George’s Co, Md. William’s maternal grandparents are Richard Isaac (died before 28 June 1759 Prince George’s Co, Md when his will was proved) and Sarah Pottenger (daughter of John Pottenger, she died before 1759 Md). William’s paternal grandparents are William Ridgely (died 1719 Md) and Jane Westall (born 6 September 1682 Md the daughter of George Westall and Sarah Wade) who married the 4th of March 1701/02 in Prince George’s Co, Md. William’s paternal great grandparents are William Ridgely (arrived in Md in 1668, and claim his 50 acres the 27th of June 1672 for transporting himself) and Elizabeth Vennall. Mary and William Ridgely had two daughters before William’s early death, both born in Frederick Co, Md. William Ridgely died in 1776 in Frederick Co, Md. Then Mary [Thrasher] Ridgely married John Lynch the 13th of February 1779 in Frederick Co, Md. Mary and John Lynch had four children, all born in Frederick Co, Md. John Lynch died in 1798 in Frederick Co, Md and Mary [Thrasher] Ridgely Lynch died before the 3rd of January 1814 in Frederick Co, Md when the will was proved. Elizabeth and John Thrasher sr had ten children we know of, one born in Frederick Co, Md and eight born in Breckinridge Co, Ky. Elizabeth [Dutrow] Thrasher died before 1818 and John Thrasher sr died in 1828 in Perry Co, In. Keziah Thrasher married Samuel Lyeth (Lieth ?) the 12th of October 1782 in Frederick Co, Md. At this time we do not know anymore about this couple. (Source Code – RWB2, Cd 195.) 6) Sarah Thrasher (see Chapter 6c1a6) was born in 1763 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Sarah Thrasher married Stephen Hook the 14th of November 1784 in Frederick Co, Md. Stephen Hook (see Chapter 4d4a) was a first cousin to Sarah’s father Thomas Thrasher and was born in November 1757 in Frederick Co, Md the son of James Hook jr and Mary, maiden name unknown who married about 1756 in Frederick Co, Md. Rachel was born the 6th of December 1766 in Md the daughter of Thomas Fee and Sarah Lyeth and when Rachel was only eleven moved with her folks to Washington Co, Pa. Both John Thrasher jr and his wife Rachel were Methodists. Philip Hocker and his first cousin Philip Hocker (see paragraph 5c2e3) lived in Lincoln Co, Ky at the same time and they were often confused with each other. The only noticable difference between these two cousins was one was taller then the other. So it became common for them to be referred to a “Short” and “Long”. Philip “Short” Hocker was married three times, first to his first cousin (see paragraph 5c2e6) Dorcas Hocker the 25th of August 1801 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Dorcas was born the 26th of January 1784 in Montgomery Co, Md the daughter of Nicholas Hocker and Sarah Barnes. Dorcas and Philip “Short” Hocker had six children, all born in Lincoln Co, Ky. Dorcas [Hocker] Hocker died the 14th of November 1825 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Then Philip “Short” Hocker married his niece Nancy Hocker the 2nd of December 1828 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Nancy was born about 1802 in Lincoln Co, Ky the daughter of Jacob Hocker (see Chapter 5c2b1). Nancy and Philip “Short” Hocker did not have any children and then Nancy died. Then Philip “Short” Hocker married the widow Amanda Lee [Tucker] Duncan the 25th of January 1837 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Amanda Lee was born in 1804 in Lincoln Co, Ky the daughter of Zachariah Tucker and Polly Craig married the 18th of April 1801 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Amanda Lee’s maternal grandparents are Samuel Craig and Mary Masterson who married the 7th of March 1781 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Hester was born in 1784 in Momtgomery Co, Md the daughter of Thomas Pender (born 1752 Md, a revolutionary war veteran, a farmer, died 14 January 1833 Ky) and Anne Rhoads married the 9th of September 1779 in Montgomery Co, Md. Harriet was born in 1784 in Montgomery Co, Md the daughter of Charles Redmon (born 24 May 1757 Md, a revolutionary war veteran) and Harriet, maiden name unknown who married the 24th of April 1778 in Montgomery Co, Md. Harriet and Philip Hocker had seven sons, all born in Ohio Co, Ky. For information about their children, see Chapter 6c2d7. Philip Hocker died the 13th of October 1851 in Ohio Co, Ky and is buried in the Goshen Methodist Cemetery. Harriet was alive and living with her son Philip in 1870. Harriet [Redmon] Hocker died in 1778 in Ohio Co, Ky. Harriet lived to be 94 years old, and for 81 years was a member of the Goshen Methodist Church, Beaver Dam, Ohio Co, Ky. Dorcas E Hocker married twice, first to Joshua Barnard the 24th of December 1805 in Ohio Co, Ky by the Rev Thomas Taylor. The bondsman was Dorcas’s father, Philip Hocker. Joshua was born about 1888 Md the son of William Logan Barnard (born 1757 Md, a revolutionary war veteran, a farmer, died 1843 Ky) and Sara Pigman (born Md, sister to Rev Ignatius Pigman, the Methodist minister). Joshua Barnard’s maternal grandparents are Matthew Pigman1 (born 1723 Md, died 1784 Md) and Dorcas Gartrell (daughter of Stephen Gartrell) of Montgomery Co, Md. Joshua Barnard’s great maternal grandparents are John Pigman jr and Vickdorany. Joshua Barnard’s great great maternal grandfather is John Pigman sr, who was the first Pigman to arrive in the colonies. Joshua Barnard was a Ohio Co, Ky constable. Dorcas and Joshua Barnard had a daughter before Joshua’s early death, born in Ohio Co, Ky. Joshua Barnard died in 1808 in Ohio Co, Ky and Dorcas then married Joshua’s brother Ignatius Pigman Barnard the 18th of February 1812 in Ohio Co, Ky by Rev Francis Travis. The only noticable difference between these two cousins was one was taller then the other. So it became common for them to be referred to a “Short” and “Long”. Philip “Long” Hocker married Sarah “Sally” M Duncan the 28th of November 1801 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Sally was the daughter of Samuel Duncan and Sarah, maiden name unknown. Sally and Philip “Long” Hocker had thirteen children, all born in Lincoln Co, Ky. For information about their children, see Chapter 6c2e3. Philip “Long” Hocker died in 1857 in Lincoln Co, Ky and Sarah M [Duncan] Hocker died in 1858 in Lincoln Co, Ky. Nancy was born the 5th of September 1788 in Madison Co, Ky the daughter of Joseph Ellison (born 11 January 1758, died 7 May 1830 Ky) and Mary Kavanaugh who married the 1st of September 1787 in Madison Co, Ky. Nicholas Hocker jr was one of the most substantial citizens, a justice of the peace, and a farmer in Madison Co, Ky. Polly and Alford W Hocker had ten children, all born in Lincoln Co, Ky. See Chapter 6c2e8 for information about their children. Alford Hocker and Polly migrated to Johnson Co, Mo before 1850. Mary “Polly” [Duncan] Hocker died before 1850 in Johnson Co, Mo. Then Alford W Hocker married the widow Margaret [Bigham] Harrison the 22nd of November 1850 in Johnson Co, Mo. Margaret was born in 1817 in Tennessee and married John Harrison the 21st of July 1835 in Johnson Co, Mo. Margaret was a widow according to the 1850 Johnson Co, Mo census and had the following children living with her: Mariah (born 1837 Mo), Malissa (born 1838 Mo), Thomas B (born 1839 Mo), Joseph N (born 1841 Mo), Archibold (born 1843 Mo), Nancy A (born 1844 Mo), and Marsha E (born 1848 Mo). We do not know anymore about them as a couple. Then we find Alford W Hocker married widow Caroline Parmelia [Davis] Kennedy the 18th of March 1860 in Cedar Co, Mo. Caroline Parmelia was born in 1811 in Tennessee the widow of Francis H Kennedy who married her the 8th of October 1829 in Maury Co, Tn. Francis and Caroline Kennedy were found living in Lawrence Co, Tn with their children in 1850 and then they migrated to Missouri and apparently Francis Kennedy died in the mid 1850s in Cedar Co, Mo. As shown in the 1860 Cedar Co, Mo census we find Alford Hocker and his wife Caroline Parmelia with her following children from her first marriage living with them as follows: James L Kennedy (born 1845 Tn), Laura H Kennedy (born 1847 Tn), and Rebecca Kennedy (born 1853 Tn). According to the 1860 Cedar Co, Mo census Alford Hocker was a school teacher. The 1870 Cedar Co, Mo census shows Caroline Parmelia with her son James and her daughter Rebecca living with her alone. According to the 1880 Hancock Co, Tn census Polly was a widow and she had her daughter Sarah Jane Seals and granddaughter Mary Standifer (born 1865 Tn) living with her. 7) Charlotte Seals was born about 1809 in Randolph Co, NC and raised in Claiborne Co (now Hancock Co) Tn. Charlotte Seals married Mr Hurley in Hancock Co, Tn. John Seals married Sarah “Sallie” Rhea about 1838 in Claiborne Co, Tn. Sarah and John Seals had five children, all born in Claiborne Co, Tn. Lydia Hawker married Edward R Hall the 27th of Novermber 1843 in Halifax Co, Va. We do not know anymore about this couple. (Source Codes – Cd 229.) 2) Ambrose Hocker (Hawker) jr (see Chapter 6c4g2) was born about 1795 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Ambrose Hawker jr married Sarah “Sally” Conner the 6th of December 1830 in Halifax Co, Va. Sally was the daughter of John Conner and Mary “Polly” Thompson who married the 9th of December 1802 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. We are not sure of the following, but it is very possible that Ambrose Hawker jr and his wife Sally migrated soon after they married possibly with Ambrose Hawker’s cousin Reuben Hawker and his wife. It this is the case, then we believe Sally and Ambrose Hawker jr had two children, both born in DeKalb Co, Tn. For information about their children, see Chapter 6c4g2. Ambrose Hawker jr and Sally may have died during the 1840’s. We are not sure who the guardian of these two children was, but it may have been Ambrose’s cousin Reuben Hawker. Their daughter Eliza married and her brother William was living with her and her husband John Alexander according to the 1850 DeKalb Co, Tn. Both Sally and her husband John Durham died before 1860 in Pittsylvania Co, Va census was taken. The 1850 and 1860 Pittsylvania Co, Va census we find Cloe Hawker and her sister Jane Hawker living with the children. The 1870 Pittsylvania Co, Va census shows that Cloe Hawker was the head-of-the-household, since the remaining children that were living their were under age. (Source Code – Cd 229.) 6) Cloe Hocker (Hawker) was born in 1820 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Cloe Hawker along with her sister Jane Hawker were living with their sister Sally and her husband John Durham and their family as shown in the 1850 and 1860 Pittsylvania Co, Va census. The 1860 Pittsylvania Co, Va census shows Cloe Hawker as the head-of-the-household which included her sister Jane Hawker and her late sister’s children, John Henry Durham, Lydia Durham, Martha Durham, Charles Durham, Lettie Durham and Sallie Durham. The 1870 Pittsylvania Co, Va census shows Cloe Hawker as the head-of-the-household and she was taking care of her late sister’s two youngest children, Lettie Durham and Sallie Durham. Apparently Cloe Hawker never married but spent her life taken care of her siblings and their children. 7) Jane Hocker (Hawker) born in 1827 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Jane Hawker and her sister Cleo Hawker were living with their sister Sally and her husband John Durham and their family as shown in the 1850 and 1860 Pittsylvania Co, Va census. Jane Hawker helped raised her sister Sally’s children. After the 1860 census we find no more about Jane Hawker. The bond was provided by Polly’s father, Samuel Pruitt who consented. Polly was born about 1772 the daughter of Samuel Pruitt jr (born 1730 Md) and Lucy Owen who married in 1754 in Frederick Co, Md. Polly and Bazel Hawker had two children, before Bazel’s early death, both born in Pittsylvania Co, Va as follows: 1) Reuben Hocker (Hawker) (see Chapter 6c4h1) was born in 1795 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittslyvania Co, Va. The 1870 Halifax Co, Va census shows William Russell a widower again and had his son Henry Banks Russell and his wife Fanny living with him along with his sons John James Russell and William Russell, and Sally Russell, his daughter from his second marriage. As shown in the 1880 Halifax Co, Va census William Russell married a third time to Jenie, maiden name unknown (born 1840 Va) and his daughter Sally Russell was living with them. Johnson Hawker died before the 19th of October 1888 (the date the will was proved) in Person Co, NC and Elizabeth Sarah Jane [Smith] Hawker died about 1902. (Source Code – Cd 229.) We found a Johnson Hawker living in Neshorba Co, Ms as shown in the 1880 Ms census with his wife Margaret, maiden name unknown (born 1850 Ms, she was of Choctaw descent) with the following children: Henry Hawker (born 1863 Va), LaFayette Hawker (born 1864 Va), Andrew “Andy” Hawker (born 1876 Ms), and Joneal Hawker (born 1877 Ms). From what we hear from some Johnson Hawker descendants, these must be two differenct Johnson Hawkers. 3) Byrdsey Hawker was born the 1815 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittsylvania Co, Va. The 1850 Pittsylvania Co, Va census Byrdsey Hawker was single and living with her parents. According to the 1860 Pittsylvania Co, Va census Byrdsey Hawker was living with her sister Betsy and her family. Apparently Byrdsey Hawker never married. 4) William Hawker jr was born in 1816 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittsylvania Co, Va. William Hawker jr married Rachel Earp the 17th of December 1849 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Rachel was born in 1814 in Va the daughter of Nicholas Earp. We do not know anymore about this couple. (Source Code – Cd 229.) 5) Elizabeth “Betsy” Hawker was born in 1820 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Elizabeth “Betsy” Hawker married George W Bentley before 1860 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. George was born in 1833 in Pittsylvania Co, Va the son of John J Bentley (born 1807 Va, a merchant) and Ellender, maiden name unknown (born 1815 Va) of Pittslyvania Co, Va. According to the 1860 Pittsylvania Co, Va census we find that Betsy’s sister Byrdsey Hawker was living with them. The “Confederate Soldiers of Pittsylvania Co and Danville” by Mike K Williams has George Bentley listed as a private in Company A of the 38th Regiment. That is all we know of this couple. 6) Jane Hawker was born in 1829 in Pittsylvania Co, Va and raised in Pittsylvania Co, Va. Nancy and Walter Rice had three children, all born in Halifax Co, Va. According to the 1850 Halifax Co, Va census we find Walter Rice’s brother Charles Rice along with Mary Daniel (born 1820 Va, a laborer). Nancy [Hite] Rice died about 1877 in Halifax Co, Va and then Walter J Rice married widow Susan [maiden name unknown] Goode before 1880 in Halifax Co, Va. Susan was born in 1837 in Virginia. As shown in the 1880 Halifax Co, Va census Walter Rice and his wife Susan had her daughter Addie L Goode (born 1870 Va) along with Walter’s son William Rice’s two children from his first marriage, Nancy Rice and David Rice living with them. As shown in the 1850 Pittsylvania Co, Va census Charles Rice was living with his brother Walter Rice and his family and working as a laborer. At this time this is all we know about Charles Rice. 6) Mary Rice was born about 1816 in Halifax Co, Va and raised in Halifax Co, Va. Mary Rice married James Colley the 19th of February 1833 in Pittsylvania Co, Va. James was born in 1814 in Virginia. We know Mary and James Colley had children before Mary died. Then James Colley married another Mary. We can not be sure which children belong to Mary [Rice] Colley. Stephen’s brother Elias Hook married Elizabeth’s sister Nancy Harnsbarger the same day in a double ring ceremony. Stephen Hook was a sheriff of Allegany Co, Va. 2) Eli Hook was born about 1787 in Frederick Co, Md. 3) Elias Hook was born about 1788 in Frederick Co, Md. Sarah and Daniel Hook had a daughter as follows: 1) Mary Davis Hook (see Chapter 6d4b1) was born about 1793 in Frederick Co, Md and raised in Frederick Co, Md. Mary Davis Hook married Patrick McGill the 15th of March 1816 in Frederick Co, Md. Patrick McGill purchased the home of Mary Davis’s paternal grandfather James Hook jr built (which is still standing today). Mary Davis and Patrick McGill had three children. Barnet was the son of Bennett Rinehart of Greene Co, Pa. Sarah and Barnet Rinehart had five children. For information about their children, see Chapter 6d5a3. Susanna was the daughter of George Remsberg and Catherine Sulser who married the 27th of March 1789 in Frederick Co, Md. Susanna and William Lakin had nine children.
